John Deere’s 1470G Wheeled Harvesters With CH9 Booms Can Now Take Advantage Of Intelligent Boom Control

John Deere recently announced that its IBC (Intelligent Boom Control) technology is now available on the 1470G wheeled harvester. IBC is an exclusive feature of the company’s CH9 boom that allows the operator to control the harvester head, while IBC “automatically guides the boom accordingly,” Deere explains. This makes it so the operator doesn’t have to handle each joint movement individually, leading to smoother, more efficient harvesting. IBC has electrical end damping built-in for every main boom movement, which stops “strong blow-like loads in the end positions” and helps “the boom structures and hydraulic cylinders last longer,” according to Deere. It also prevents wounds to surrounding trees to improve overall lumber quality.

“John Deere pioneered the IBC technology for harvesters, and we are excited to evolve that offering to include our large 1470G machine,” says Sakari Suuriniemi, product marketing manager for John Deere. “After using an IBC-equipped machine, the boosts to productivity and efficiency are undeniable, making IBC a must-have feature for any logging operation. Understanding the demands of the logging industry and the labor challenges, IBC allows operators—new or seasoned—to work faster, even in difficult conditions.”

Seamless Integration

Intelligent Boom Control integrates seamlessly with John Deere’s other technologies to offer more stable and accurate operation. One example is the Processing Power Control system, which coordinates “the accurate processing level with the current work conditions and tree size” to improve fuel efficiency, the company explains. Another example is Adaptive Driveline Control, which adjusts “engine RPMs to correspond with engine loads,” resulting in enhanced drivability, according to Deere. Even the cab adjusts automatically to each boom movement to absorb and reduce vibration.

More On The John Deere 1470G

The 1470G is the largest harvester in the company’s lineup and features a 9-liter John Deere Tier 4 Final engine that produces 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts) and 970 pounds-foot (1,315 newton meters) of torque. It has an operating weight of 53,462 pounds (24,250 kilograms), felling diameter of 28 inches (710 millimeters), delimbing diameter of 26.8 inches (680 millimeters), and a delimbing feed rate of 17.4 feet per second (5.3 meters per second). It also features a 119-gallon (450-liter) fuel tank and a 79-gallon (300-liter) hydraulic tank.
