TimberMatic Maps and TimberManager are software tools that help forestry operations map out the logging area, provide precise cutting locations, and share updates to the machines on the jobsite in real-time to increase production efficiency. John Deere recently expanded the technology solutions to include feller bunchers and skidders, in addition to the previously supported group of wheeled and tracked harvesters, forwarders, and swing machines.

    How The Technology Works

John Deere forestry equipment featuring TimberMatic Maps and TimberManager systems transmit data collected by the sensors on the equipment, while the production location is gathered through GPS technology to cloud-based software. As the timber is moved, operators can update the map, optimizing jobsite awareness. “With TimberMatic Maps and TimberManager, the skidder and the feller buncher are working together instead of guessing where each other are at,” says Thomas Johnson, owner of Thomas Johnson Logging. “In a way, it adds a safety aspect to it. You can see a lot more [of the jobsite] without having to walk ahead.”

    Mapping Capabilities

When compared to the former TimberNavi system, the new software tools benefit from support for all map formats. According to John Deere, the options range from “a simple map drawn in by hand to an elaborate shape file or PDF file.” Operators using TimberMatic Maps can also create a map from satellite imagery or topography that’s loaded through the JDLink cellular connection.

    Production Efficiency Metrics

Managers can view jobsite summary data in the TimberManager tool, while also monitoring production efficiencies. The online, cloud-based tool also lets managers create or alter map features and share updates to all machines in real time, so managers don’t need to visit each machine and operator.

You’ll find a large selection of new and used Deere forestry equipment for sale every day on ForestryTrader.com, including feller bunchers and skidders.
