Deere Introduces FL100 Felling Head For Steep Slope Work
Deere & Company is introducing a new directional felling head for the steep-slope forestry market. Designed to be larger and more durable, the new FL100 swing-to-tree sawhead features increased grip strength, high grapple capacity, and excellent shoveling performance, the company says. The FL100 comes factory-installed on Deere’s new 959ML shovel logger/directional feller.
“Our customers are continuing to tackle more challenging terrain, and we want to provide reliable, durable equipment that is designed to meet their unique needs,” says John Deere’s tracked harvesters and feller bunchers product marketing manager, Jim O’Halloran. “As they seek purpose-built equipment for their operations, the FL100 will allow them to efficiently and safely fell in both unique steep slopes and traditional felling applications.”
High Strength, High Capacity
Deere designed the FL100 with a forward-placed saw unit and a large cutting capacity of 39.3 in (1 meter). Its dual rotate motors and powered tilt control let it maneuver logs easily in steep terrain. The felling head’s curved grapple arms can handle everything from small timber to extra-large logs with an 8.4-square foot (0.78-square meter) accumulation capacity. The FL100’s high grip strength stems from a dedicated cylinder for each arm.
The head is built with a one-piece welded steel frame for durability, and it provides good access to its maintenance and service points. With its shoveling power, the head is versatile enough to use for shovel/hoe chucking. All in all, the FL100 will yield better log quality and send more wood to the mill, Deere says.
