Caterpillar D8 36A
36A-series Caterpillar D8 equipped with wobble-stick dozer control. Based on the controls, it appears to be 1966 or newer, and the later-style engine enclosures suggest approximately 1969 or newer.
The rear-mounted unit is not a winch. It is a Caterpillar No. 29 Cable Control Unit (No. 29 CCU), a dual-drum cable control unit commonly used for operating a cable-controlled pull scraper.
When pulling a scraper, one drum controls raising and lowering the scraper bowl, while the second drum controls the dump function. The No. 29 CCU could also be used to operate a cable-controlled dozer using a single drum.
