    About Vermeer

Gary Vermeer founded the company that bears his name in 1948. A farmer based in Pella, Iowa, Vermeer is credited with having invented the wagon hoist, which he manufactured and sold to others in the Pella area who were requesting their own. Vermeer followed the success of the wagon hoist with the development and manufacturing of stump cutters in the 1950s, trenchers in the 1960s, and round balers in the 1970s.

    Vermeer Product Lines

Vermeer produces equipment for a wide range of markets, including forestry, agriculture, fluid management, utility installation, surface mining, pipeline, and recycling industries. The company’s forestry machines include track and wheel stump cutters, pull-behind brush chippers, tub grinders, mulchers, forestry tractors, whole-tree chippers, compost turners, tree spades, and horizontal grinders. Vermeer even markets a few tilt-bed trailers designed to simplify hauling its forestry equipment.

Vermeer’s family of pull-behind brush chippers, also known as “towable wood chippers,” is one of its most popular product lines. The BC1000XL Tier 4 Final towable wood chipper has a 49- or 74-horsepower (36.5- or 55-kilowatt) engine, a 25-gallon (94.5-liter) fuel tank, a rubber torsion suspension for smooth towing, and a patented bottom-feed stop bar that enables the operator to stop the feed rollers and switch between forward and reverse operations.

The BC1000XL gas model has a 72.4-hp (54-kW) Deutz 2.9 L4 gas engine and an electronic fuel injection system for better performance in cold weather. A direct electronic pressure regulator provides enhanced control of fuel delivery and combustion.
